Baby Blues

We went visiting a lovely couple who are our friends today!! They had a baby on Xmas eve. The baby was so cute and handsome and had this long, straight and very black hair!! He was so cute and made my maternal instincts run riot!! His mummy said he wasnt expected until the end of Janurary and that she was cooking for some guests when she started having some pains but was determined to finish cooking and then served them. It was after their guests had been served that the pangs became worse and so they called for an ambulance. The ambulance crew said they wouldnt be able to send an ambulance before the next 2hours and if they could, they should either drive or call a taxi if they choose to and make their way to the hospital themselves as it would be faster. They decided to drive and the expectant father drove to the hospital and got there just on time!! As soon as he had wheeled his wife into the hospital and handed her over to the hospital staff, he realised he had forgotten his camera and went back to get it but alas, baby wasnt willing to wait and voila - he was born into the world into eager, loving and waiting arms of his parents. They are all fine and enjoying parenthood. Only Daddy was complaining that the little angel chooses to sleep during the day and then keeps awake all night!!! Both new Mum & Dad are taking turns at working the night shift. We went with to visit the New Parents with another couple - Mr & Mrs Y and Mrs Y has 2kids of her own and so was busy giving out motherhood tips to the new mummy. All I could do was oogle the baby and hold him listening steadily as I had no motherhood tips whatsoever to share!! Nada!!! Zilch!!! LOL!!!!!

Yeah!!! the sales are on!!! Although I must say I was too lazy to go out in the deep of the night and join the early morning queues waiting for the shops to open. I was interested in the NEXT sales but somehow I woke up late wednesday morning and then when I remembered the sales had started, logged online to do my shopping. I couldnt believe my eyes!! The discounts were good!! Most male items reduced to just £20 from £65 et al. I put as much as I could possibly afford into my basket and headed to the checkout. Unfortunately, at the checkout, all the items were out of stock!! *sigh* I should have known that!! What did I expect? That the items would be on the shelves waiting for me to pick them up leisurely 5hours later? Serves me right!! Will certainly not be caught short during the next sales!!!

Guy Goma is having a movie made about his life!! I was gobsmacked when I heard that on Jimmy Carr's TV Show this evening. For those of you who dont remember him, Guy Goma is the business graduate from Congo who went to the BBC for a Job interview and was mistaken for another person - Guy Kewney an IT expert and rushed onto BBC NEWS 24 set - live transmission to answer questions on the Apple V Apple case. We heard live from the horses mouth that the movie is going to be out sometime next year!!! Here is the video of his interview at BBC NEWS 24. He has become a little bit of a star since then and has also appeared on several shows since then including Jonathan Ross's Show although I cant imagine why he keeps on wearing the same mismatched trousers and jacket. He should make an effort to look good and do the rest of us proud!!

Its soon going to be New Years Eve and there'll be a Fireworks display over the River Thames at Westminster Bridge and a Parade on New Years Day that starts from Westminster as Big Ben strikes 12 noon and follows a 2.2 mile route to Picadilly Circus where it ends at Berkeley Square. I have always watched both the fireworks display and the New Years parade from my sofa in past years and would love to attend both for a change this year but lets see how it goes.

Happy Boxing Day!!

Merry Christmas in arrears to you all and Happy Boxing Day!! Although I doubt that there are any unopened presents out there anywhere in the world. Boxing Day is the day officially designated for opening all Christmas Presents but I'm sure nobody ever waits till Boxing Day anymore before opening their presents. I know I opened mine yesterday too. (smile)

I have been stalking the official Cross River State Webpage for pictures of the Christmas Carnival in Calabr but none have been uploaded yet. Its the Carnival Float parade today and sources tell me that Virgin Nigeria is the official Carnival Carrier and has flown in Channel O crew from their base in Johannesbourg to Calabar to beam the Carnival live to Channel O today. I'll be watching out for that!! And on CNN too!!

And of course, there's the Sales - most of them starting today for anyone who still has some money left over from Christmas spending!!! Who knows? Maybe I'll join the crowd - browsing the shops!!

Sights and Sounds of Christmas!!!

Hello Everyone!!! I know its been long since I updated!! A big shout out to all of you who've been nudging me to update. I have been wanting to do a Sights and Sounds of Christmas post ever since I saw the beautiful christmas lights on Debenhams, House of Fraser and Marks & Spencer, Oxford Street shops but somehow I havent gotten round to taking my camera around those areas when its dark and the lights are on. I'll try and put them up anyway before the festivities are over if I get round to taking the pictures. Its so cold these days that a detour from my normal route from work has been very unlikely when everyone is rushing back home away from the frigging cold. My neighbours on the other hand are into the Christmas Festivities big time and their decorations are up and looked so lovely so I decided to share them with you instead!! They came back from their shopping and met me taking these pictures of their home and I bet they must have felt good that someone or one amebo was taking an interst in thier decorations!! I couldnt help telling them it was lovely though and that I though they had done a marvellous job!! They keep the flag burning for lazy people like me who cant be bothered to put up such lovely exterior decorations. My sitting room was decorated by moi last weekend though. Wouldnt want you thinking I'm such a Christmas Spoilsport. Who knows? Maybe hubby will agree and we'll join them next year in putting up decorations outside hmmn?

Havent got much planned for this christmas. Its going to be just me and hubby cuddling together after our Christmas Lunch. I'm waiting till the weekend of the 24th before I do any shopping for gifts. Most of our nieces and nephews have dropped hints so its going to be mostly gift vouchers we're giving out as christmas gifts. The forecasts are that the shops are having a dismal time with people like me not coming in to do any shopping and their sales arent looking good at all so there have been several subtle discounts as the days go by shops desperate to keep sales up. I hope they keep the discounts coming in cos I'm hitting the shops on Christmas Eve for my own shopping or whatever is left of it!!! Then I'll be able to make the most of my money with all the discounts that willl be in store then!!

My bills all have their due dates about the same time this December. My Credit Card payments are due on the 25th, phone bill, gas bills and other catalogue bills are due on the 26th, 27th and 28th respectively so Shopping just has to wait until my paycheck clears on the 22nd and I pay the numerous bills first!! *SIGH* I wish I were young again and didnt have to worry about anything but the Christmas Clothes and Presents I would be getting from my parents for Christmas and the food we'll be wolfing down on that day and other days of the festivities!! How time flies bye and the rules of the game have changed!! I'm now an adult and must help make Christmas memorable for the younger ones just like the numerous uncles and aunties did when I was younger too. I long for the bliss that existed then!!

For those of you still going back home for Christmas, dont forget the Calabar Christmas Festival!!! I couldnt make it to Calabar this year but I promise to give you guys an update as the festivities unfold!! The climax is going to be on Christmas and Boxing Day!! Will post pictures as soon as my people back home get them across to me. For those of you whose flights are yet to take off, good luck and best wishes on boarding ur numerous flights successfully out of the UK!! There has been a very severe, thick and dense fog over the UK these past few days. Its resulted in a lot of flights to all over the world from heathrow being cancelled due to poor visibility. Its caused a lot of chaos at Heathrow as well as other airports all over the country!! So please call or check the BAA website to find out if your flights have been cancelled or rescheduled or if the old flight schedule still stands before you head out to the airports in the run upto Christmas. The bookies have slashed the odds on there being a White Christmas this year!! That I am very much looking forward too!!!

In case I dont post any messages again before the 25th of December, Here's Wishing you all a very

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance!!

Jane's Revenge

This huge billboard occupies a prominent 'place of honour' in Birmingham City Centre.

Hell they say hath no fury like a woman scorned in love!!! I couldnt believe my eyes when I opened 'The Sun' a daily newspaper this morning and saw the above poster. A furious wife's revenge on her husband who she suspected was having an affair and later on, it was confirmed that he was indeed having an affair with her 'best friend'!!!! She burned his clothes, changed the locks and emptied their joint bank account to pay for the ad on this giant billboard in BIRMINGHAM CITY CENTRE!!! Revenge is sweet and best served cold they say!! This news about Jane's story and her revenge is really making the headlines all around the world right now - Sky News, Birmingham Radio - 96.4 BRMB - apparently she began emailing thier breakfast presenter - Caroline Martin in September after she suspected her husband was having an affair!! The emails are available on the web if anyone is interested in reading them. You can listen to Jane's story also as discussed on Caroline's Breakfast show on BRMB from the link on Caroline's Blog.
I wouldnt want to be in his hugely humiliated shoes or her heartbroken shoes right now either!!!
Her Story can also be found on MySpace. Maybe 'Mark & Shelley' will start a blog to give us their own side of the story too hmmn?

This story has brought about a lot of food for thought!! Was Jane's action justified? Does Jane deserve commendation for what she has done or did she overreact? What about Mark? Do his actions justify the punishment meted out to him? What are your views on partners cheating on each other and how far do you think is the limit on a partner's revenge? I'd love to hear all about your opinions!!

Baba Alaayee - Hell hath no fury than a woman scorned in love!! LOL!!! I know you're going to get ur back at me for this dig but I couldnt resist it!!! LOL!!!

Ladies Beware!

There's so much stress in the air - at least around me right now. Christmas is around the corner. Presents to be bought for family - mine, his, nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles, sisters, brothers. This love that must be shared at christmas is stressing me out!!! So much expectations!! Maybe I should dissapear this christmas hmmn and appear after the New Year? I come back so tired each day but I give thanks to God for the ability to leave the house and I know that things can only get better. I have decided to tell you about three beautiful things that made my day.
1. Hubby is alive and well and still loves me!!
2. The christmas lights on Oxford street are so beautiful and the christmas decorations for the exterior of Debenhams, John Lewis and Marks and Spencer - Oxford Street branches are simply WOW!!!
3. Made this wonderful Fisherman Stew for hubby this evening - it was fingerlickinggood!!!

I'll leave you guys with this story that was forwarded to my inbox sometime ago. Its really food for thought.

Have you ever noticed gals who sit their handbags on public toilet floors - then go directly to their dining tables and set it on the table? Happens a lot! It's not always the 'restaurant food' that causes stomach distress. Sometimes "what you don't know 'will' hurt you"! Read on... Mum got so upset when guests came in the door and plopped their handbags down on the counter where she was cooking or setting up food. She always said that handbags are really dirty, because of where they have been. Smart Mum!!! It's something just about every woman carries with them. While we may know what's inside our handbags, do you have any idea what's on the outside?

Shauna Lake put handbags to the test - for bacteria - with surprising results. You may think twice about where you put your handbag. Women carry handbags everywhere; from the office to public toilets to the floor of the car. Most women won't be caught without their handbags. But did you ever stop to think about where your handbag goes during the day? "I drive a school bus so my handbag has been on the floor of the bus a lot." says one woman. "On the floor of my car, and in toilets." "I put my handbag in grocery shopping carts, on thefloor of the toilet while changing a nappy," says another woman "and of course in my home which should be clean."

We decided to find out if handbags harbour a lot of bacteria. We learned how to test them at Nelson Laboratories in Salt Lake, and then we set out to test the average woman's handbag. Most women told us they didn't stop to think about what was on the bottom of their handbag. Most said at home they usually set their handbags on top of kitchen tables and counters where food is prepared. Most of the ladies we talked to told us they wouldn't be surprised if their handbags were at least a little bit dirty. It turns out handbags are so surprisingly dirty, even the microbiologist who tested them was shocked.

Microbiologist Amy Karen of Nelson Labs says nearly all of the handbags tested were not only high in bacteria but high in harmful kinds of bacteria. Pseudomonas can cause eye infections, staphylococcus aurous can cause serious skin infections, and salmonella and e-coli found on the handbags could make people very sick. In one sampling, four of five handbags tested positive for salmonella, and that's not the worst of it. "There is fecal contamination on the handbags," says Amy. Leather or vinyl handbags tended to be cleaner than cloth handbags and lifestyle seemed to play a role. People with kids tended to have dirtier handbags than those without - with one exception. The handbag of one single woman who frequented Nightclubs had one of the worst contaminations of all. "Some type of feces, or possibly vomit" says Amy.

So the moral of this story - your handbag won't kill you, but it does have the potential to make you very sick if you keep it on places where you eat. Use hooks to hang your handbag at home and in toilets and don't put it on your desk, a restaurant table, or on your kitchen countertop. Experts say you should think of your handbag the same way you would a pair of shoes. "If you think about putting a pair of shoes onto your countertops, that's the same thing you're doing when you put your Handbag on the countertops" - your handbag has gone where individuals before you have sneezed, coughed, spat, urinated, emptied bowels, etc!Do you really want to bring that home with you? The microbiologists at Nelson also said cleaning a handbag will help. Wash cloth handbags and use leather cleaner to clean the bottom of leather handbags.

Well, One thing I know for sure - My handbag isnt going to see the floor of another public toilet ever again!!!
