Sad News

We got some very, very sad news yesterday. Very, very sad and disturbing news. My husband's niece went to see her elder kids in boarding school over the weekend as it was visiting day and left the younger kids at home with her husband. He went to a programme in church later on in the evening that day with the intention of coming back later on and asked them to lock up when going to bed.

Apparently, there was a blackout or something but the kids were home alone aged, 11, 9 and 4. Their mum came back late from visiting their elder siblings but the younger ones had gone to bed and she couldnt gain access to their home. So she went to the nearest police station and spent the night there.

Early the next morning, a neighbour helped her climb over the fence surrounding their home to help her open the gate since the kids werent responding to her banging on the gate. Alas, the neighbour raised an alarm after he had climbed over the fence that there was smoke coming from the building.

Maybe the kids had left a candle smouldering while they went to sleep, no one really knows. But they were overcome by the smoke and all three died in their sleep - smoke inhalation and suffocation. 3 hale and hearty, vibrant and beautiful kids gone in one fell swoop in the twinkle of an eye. They've lost 3 kids at a go. Their mum is so inconsolable and devastated. The words: If only....., If only....., What if......, What if......, abounds. Yesterday she was a mother of five, now reduced to 2. Its so, so sad. May their souls rest in perfect peace. Amen.

  1. This story is so sad. However, my question is where did the father of the children go to? What kind of Church is that. He is lucky that he is not here in the US if he was the police would have carried him.How can he leave those young kids alone. He probably lied and went to see his concubine.Their mother had a legitimate reason for not being around.I pray that the kids rest in peace.

  2. I am in shock...I came to this site after I have not been able to visit for a while for some juicy news not this very sad story. Why this continues to happen I do not know. Why parents are still using candles I do not know...I have no blames for anyone at this time. This mother will be in 'hell' for the rest of her life no matter what and I do not think I can add to that...I simply have no words...This is very sad...

  3. What a sad story? Both parents absent.A bit irresponsible for the Dad not to come back home. Perhaps he thought his wife would be home. This story is a bit weird though- How come the lady had no access to her home? Sorry was this in Naija - who sleeps at the Police station? Anyways so many questions, all we need do is pray for them ..what a terrible unavoidable loss...Adieu

  5. Jesus...God please, ONLY YOU oh God can comfort this mother in this time...Oh, such loss...

(I'm short of words to say, what can anyone do or say when they hear something like this, but to resign to God's perfect knowledge?) May their little souls rest in perfect peace...Amen.

  7. I shall be praying for them. My heart goes out to them. This is just another reason, why I hate those massive fences we all have in 9ja. I can understand her not having access, as when one does not have a guard, the locks on the gates at night which are used (when one is at home) are not usually accessible from the outside. I honestly pray that she and her husband can survive this tragedy.

  17. Mmamma this is so sad and maybe i shouldn't be saying this but i can't help it anyway: Why the HELL did the man leave such young kids on their own all night? And going on into FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH for that matter? Doesn't he know that here in England, it's ILLEGAL to leave kids on their own before the age of 16?! Damn. This is too sad. And this is his fault. I hope he can live with himself. Sorry for sounding so brash, but i'm VERY UPSET. Please take heart and greet hubby for me. I would ring you in the morning. God bless.

    Love,
    your friend in Catford.

  18. Sorry, i just read this story again and realised that this didn't happen here in England as i'd originally thought. If it did anyway, those gates would have been broken down. I don't get some things though:
1.How come the lady didn't have spare keys to gain access into her own property?
2.Why couldn't she contact her husband?
3.How come her husband was at church all night? Or was it tarry nite?
4.Why didn't she go to church to look for her husband instead of sleeping at a police station? Or didn't she know his whereabouts?

Well, these questions niggle me. Sorry love. May their souls rest in peace. Stay blessed.

    Your friend in Catford.

  20. After all the stuff I've read in the news recently and on blog this just seals it for me - never trust a man with your kids!

If he doesn't molest them they will die of either neglect while he rolls in his mistress arms or he will murder them himself.

    Hisssssssssss.

  21. OMG! how horrible!! Gosh, they must be devastated!

    ReplyDelete
  22. wow..

this story springs so many questions to mind..

    where did the father go?

why did the mother not have spare keys, and even if, why did she have to spend the night at the police station?????????????????? doesnt she have friends, neighbours? etc??

this story doesnt seem right and IT IS JUST SO UNFAIR HOW THOSE KIDS DIED!

    may God console those involved....

  23. Why do children have to suffer for the sins of their parents? He went to church? Abeg abeg don't give me that kind of funky story. It was probably the only opportunity he had to spend the night away from home. Nonsense!!
It will take a very, very, very long time for their mum to heal. Poor Woman!
    I am short for words...
May their beautiful souls rest in peace.

  27. My person,is this real-iam reality hurting inside, how come two of them leave the poor kids alone till late in the night without any adult with them.Iam so sad,i can only console the mother as a mother myself but God,those kids are innocent and why are we taking going to vigils or churches to the extreme and for crying out loud, why cant the man take the kids along if he doesnt have any hidden agenda-i wish him well.Mothers will alone can really know the pains and we should always put our kids first in everything bcos when push come to show,we bear the brunt
