Student at University of Hertfordshire commits suicide....

Reports reaching me disclose that an 18 year old student of the University of Hertfordshire has committed suicide.  The 18 year old who has not yet been named was taken to Lister Hospital, Stevenage after "self harming" by stabbing himself (with a knife) several times (outside the campus block) at about 2.15am on 12th May 2015.  He died on arrival at the hospital as a result of his injuries.

Why would a student whose parents have nutured and cared for him for over 18 years decide that life is suddenly too bleak because of a girl, take a knife and stab himself several times?  His parents have paid various sums as fees, much more for accommodation and other sundry expenses depending on his year/level of study.  Why would he do that to his family and to himself? Too late now - maybe someone saw the signs and ignored them?  May his soul rest in peace.

Read about his inquest and funeral service HERE.

    1. Listen, if you had nothing better to say then you shouldn't have said anything at all. He was my cousin and I find this comment highly insensitive to those who knew him, friends and family included.

Look, if you had nothing better to say then you honestly shouldn't have said anything at all. You need to consider the fact that your highly insensitive comment can be seen by all that read this article, family and friends included. The student being reported on in this article was my cousin.

Initially I replied to your comment as an anonymous user, however I felt that I wanted you to know who was replying to your unsympathetic comment. Please understand that this is not my way of trying to disrespect you or start something because that is not how I was raised. I completely understand that as people, we are all entitled to our own opinions on such topics, but I am simply urging you to think before you comment. The last thing the family needs is to see such insensitive comments being posted...I mean it hasn't even been a month since his passing and as a family, we are hurting and still in a process of healing so can you at least sympathize with that fact? Thank you very much glowy shoe.

    4. I appreciate he was your cousins and you should never speak ill of the dead however as you said yourself you need to get the facts right. And in an unprovoked attack he tried attacking a woman before stabbing himself to death...

  2. Thoughts and prayers are with his family. We need to understand that no everyone can handle heartbreak and some are tougher than others. I'm perplexed as to why he wasn't offered help? Well we don't kniw the full story. RIP us a I can say

There are a number of wrong 'facts' in this article. For example, the student was 18, not 19. Next time you report on such a sensitive topic, please ensure that you have all the correct facts first, as opposed to speculating. Thank you very much.

I reread the article and saw that you have made changes to it, such as that of his age...amongst other things. This is highly appreciated Calabar Gal.
