Juliette Brown has started a petition to the Attorney General of Nigeria and the Inspector General of Police. Please sign the petition HERE to draw attention to Sugabelly's case and the plight of rape victims in Nigeria.
Monday, November 30, 2015
It all kicked off when Blogger and Illustrator Sugabelly rejoiced over former Kogi State Governor Prince Abubakar Audu's death. She practically did a song and dance and announced she was off to cook 'party jollof rice'. Many on twitter shut her down but it took the intervention of her friend who released a series of direct messages (dm) between them (himself and Sugabelly) revealing that Sugabelly had been raped by a couple of Prince Abubakar Audu's sons.
Sugabelly was 17 and he was 25. was an intern in the office where he worked at the time. She had a massive crush on him and blogged about him at the time. They had sex, she was infatuated with him and then, he decided to 'share'. Thus the tale of threesomes, foursomes, fivesomes, 'get rid of his virginity scenario', him deciding who she should sleep with, rape and lots more began and continued for a period of time.
Sugabelly has revealed in great details the events that occurred and the names of her rapists. The alleged rapists have denied that Sugabelly was raped and released their own version of events to Bella Naija which suggests that Sugabelly was a willing participant and was not raped as she alleged. One of the wives of the alleged rapists has stoutly defended her husband and waded into the storm of events. Mustapha Audu has also granted an interview alleging that he had a brief relationship with Sugabelly after she turned 18 which ended when she started sleeping with his friends.

They say a problem shared is a problem half solved, right? Well, here goes … I’d like to ask for some advice but would like to remain anonymous, I’m a TV reality star and I actually don’t want my business out there.
Here’s my problem, my husband is having an affair with a lady who is around my age - she’s around my age so I know it isn’t the fact that I’m becoming “expired”. I try to keep it together as I really don’t want to do the whole divorce thing and everything else in my life is going well … I have a thriving career, I’m where I want and need to be in life; I really don’t need something like this throwing me off course but at the same time, I don’t want him to think I’m stupid and that I don’t know what’s going on. I’m even starting to question if it’s all my fault … how should I approach the situation? Is it really my fault?

Adiodun Bakare Needs Your Help - Support Him and Other Sickle Cell Patients; Join The N500 by One million Campaign
Sickle cell nightmare, what you can do to help? By Toyin Adesola
In my 50 years of living with sickle anaemia cell disorder, I have come across very heart wrenching stories. I am sure some of you have more sorry tales to tell about relatives of friends who suffer from the terrible condition. The case of Abiodun Abidemi Bakare below is one of such heart-wrenching cases that prompted this post in the first place.
Biodun was born with the Sickle Cell Anemia. The young man’s condition deteriorated after he wrapped up his final exams in the Onabisi Onabanjo University. He has lost all of the muscle functions in his lower body and the pain he goes through daily is better imagined than described. Abiodun urgently needs Hips and Knee replacement surgery. We hope to send him abroad for the replacement surgeries as soon as he is done with physiotherapy. Today his life hangs in the balance. He had to miss the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on account of his illness.

Toyin Adesola, Director SAMI
My name is Toyin Adesola. I have been living with Sickle Cell for the past 50 years.
According to statistics, an estimated 200,000 infants in Africa are born with Sickle Cell Disorder every year. Nigeria accounts for three quarters of these births. Today, about 5.2 million Nigerians suffer from the condition. I am one of them. Still, I count myself lucky because I’ve been fortunate enough to have family & friends that are very supportive and financially capable to help me through the trauma.
Having lived with Sickle Cell for 50 years I understand the challenges of dealing with it. But that’s just me. There are millions of Nigerians out there who are not so lucky. So many people with Sickle Cell have lost their lives unnecessarily because they lacked the necessary financial and moral support. Others have suffered from social stigma not only from the general public but even from their family members. That’s why we started Sickle Cell Advocacy and Management Initiative (SAMI).
Gov Tank testing the mattresses
It is no longer news that Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa State visited Government College, Keffi. While there, he embarked on a tour of the
hostels dormitories. During the hostel visit, he decided to 'test and see' what the students are enjoying so he could have a robust comparative to those provided in Government House bedrooms. Maybe the Governor should have carried a couple back to Government House for 'robust testing'. This photo opportunity stinks!
Oga Governor, my people say "The thing speaks for itself". Those mattresses are an eyesore and need replacements asap.
Renowned Journalist Funmi Iyanda was awarded an Honorary Fellowship for her significant contribution to human rights and sustainability by the University of Cumbria on Wednesday 25th November 2015. Congratulations Funmi!! Read her speech at the event below...
"Vice-Chancellor, University Staff, Distinguished Guests, Graduates, Ladies and Gentlemen, family and friends, thank you so much for those kind words and indeed for this wonderful honour. I’m very grateful, not just for this invitation to be an Honorary Fellow, but to be invited to share it with so many gifted individuals that it’s been my pleasure to meet today.
This fellowship is important to me because my father always wanted me to be a medical doctor, since that wasn’t happening l thought l’d get a doctorate to please him but l never got round to it so perhaps he’d posthumously accept this in lieu.
Also l have never worn a graduation gown, so it was on my bucket list. This lovely university is close to my heart because it has educated some of the people dearest to me, accepted my country men and women with warmth and provided me great opportunities to share my rather skewed world view. I am excited at the prospects of future opportunities for mis-education that this fellowship will mean. Now let me share a few stories with you because stories are nice.
Area Fada - Charly Boy Oputa gives his opinion on how to treat our aged relatives....

For three years before my father passed, he was never paid his pension. My mum is going through the same thing. I keep wondering, what if the financial or emotional means to take care of them was lacking, they probably will be like some of our aged pensioners who probably die standing in line waiting for their pension that never came.

Stop Reckless Driving
This little girl had her life cut short by the recklessness of man. She was brushing her teeth outside her home when a truck which was being chased by a police van ran into the bush and hit an electricity pole causing the pole to fall. Unfortunately, the pole fell on this innocent girl who was brushing her teeth outside her home.
May her soul rest in peace....
That the state of the road connecting Akpapuyo and Ikang to Calabar is deplorable is an understatement. Recently, a woman was crushed to death by a trailer on the road.
This is an appeal to the government to sit up and take their responsibilities seriously. Why must citizens loose their lives before roads are repaired? See pictures of the state of the road below:

Exactly 8 months and 15 days ago, Buhari tweeted this on his Twitter handle.
His psychopathic followers jumped on Facebook to insult GEJ now as am speaking to you they are silent.
It's either they are ashamed or dead, or have no light to charge their phones, iPads and computers, whichever way I pray they've learnt their lessons.
Do you agree with Hanna?

The "Snake Amongst Shadows" book signing event place at CLR James Library, E8. The evening started with a brief history on the life, value and work of CLR James which was presented by Editor Sam Amalemba.
A question and answer session with the audience then followed with both the audience and the author picking each other's brains. There was healthy banter about the adventures of the Expendable Private Investigator (P.I.) Logan. The evening ended with the author signing copies of his book at the event.
